the Mac-'n-Cheese experience

As
the terms winding down the fridge is starting to look like The
Montreal Forum at playoff time. Worse still the bank account has
taken on that same empty appearance - meaning its come down
to what you swore would never happen: living off Kraft Dinner!
But the thought of wading through another month of this may have
about as much appeal as gnawing on the box itself. Thankfully
theres plenty you can do to dress up the beast from the
box.
A
few recipes for dressing up the KD (or other mac n cheese
mixtures):
Kraft Dinner Casserole
Ingredients
2 boxes Kraft Dinner
1 lb. hamburger
½ cup onions, diced
½ cup diced green peppers
1 26 oz. can diced tomatoes
½ cup mushrooms
½ cup corn
½ cup cheddar cheese
Preparation
Make
KD as directed on package. Meanwhile, brown hamburg in fry pan.
Add onions, green peppers, corn and mushrooms. Cook until onions
are tender. Add tomatoes and prepared Kraft Dinner and heat through.
Pour into large casserole dish. Grate cheese over top and bake
at 350°F for 1/2 hour.
Curry Macaroni and Cheese
Ingredients
KD
mix
¼ cup of coconut milk
1 tablespoon of curry powder or paste
¼ teaspoon of pepper
¼ teaspoon cilantro or basil
hot sauce (as desired)
Preparation Prepare
KD as directed on box. Add cheese mix and stir. Mix in remaining
ingredients and heat on medium. Cover and let simmer for 5 minutes
on low.
Salsa and Cream Macaroni
and Cheese
Ingredients
KD
mix
¼ cup of Salsa (hotness is up to you)
2 tablespoons of sour cream
pepper (to taste)
½ teaspoon cilantro
Preparation Prepare
as directed on box. Add in salsa, pepper and cilantro. Mix it
all together over low heat. Serve. Dab sour cream mix over top
as desired.
Mad Mex Mix Macaroni
Ingredients
1
box Kraft Dinner
1 teaspoon of margarine or butter
1 cup canned or homemade chili
Grated cheddar cheese (optional)
Preparation
Boil
3-4 cups water in medium pot. Mix in 1 box of Kraft Dinner along
with margarine or butter. Mix it up well. Bring to boil on medium/high
and heat for around 7-8 minutes. Drain macaroni. Mix in 1 can
of chili and heat on medium while stirring until mixture is heated
throughout. Stir in cheese from packet. For extra cheese lovers
serve and grate medium or old cheddar cheese over the top. Dig
in.
Macaroni by the Sea
Ingredients
1
box Kraft Dinner
1 can flake tuna
¼ tsp. garlic powder
¼ teaspoon pepper
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup frozen peas
½ cup milk
1 tbsp. parmesan cheese (optional)
Preparation
Prepare
Kraft Dinner according as per package instructions. Drain tuna
and mix in remaining ingredients. Pour into 1 1/2 qt. casserole
dish. Cover with plastic wrap. Nuke on high for around 2 minutes.
Stir casserole and continue heating on high for another 2 ½
to 3 ½ minutes (or until cheese is melted and mixture is
heated through). Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if desired.
